Sold!

**Day 11 of "Journey to Publication"**

David Long of Bethany House was extremely gracious about receiving an unsolicited email from me. He directed me to his blog where he addresses a lot of the issues dealing with "edgy" Christian fiction. He told me to look it over and if my manuscript looked like a good fit, then to contact him at the email address he has set up for acquisitions (which he then very politely provided me with).

I went to his blog, our philosophies jibed, I emailed him back and told him he really needed to read my manuscript--which he did. That was in April of 2004. In May, my manuscript went through a review process where other folks at Bethany House read it and offer their opinions. A month later he emailed my manager and said they wanted to buy Bride.

Tomorrow, my husband's response when I give him my "big news." (If you missed the day I introduced my husband, click here. It will help prepare you for tomorrow's response.)

Susan said...: And it was a very wise decision that Bethany House made!! Dee... I have read so many great reviews on your book. I am so excited for you. I have to brag when people see your book on my desk at work -- my sister-in-law wrote this :-) Sorry I haven't been here to blog in a while. Age must be getting the best of me as I forgot my user name. How do you just forget your name??? Silly me -- it's the same one I use for just about everything. I'm sure Phil & I will have several books for you to autograph the next time we see you.

margaret said...: I agree with Susan. Bethany House is very smart to partner with you, Dee. I can't wait to see what the future holds for you.

I forget my user names and passwords, too, so I write them down. And promptly lose the scrap of paper I wrote on. Maybe I should e-mail them to myself, huh?

Susan said...: Book discussion -- I'll be doing good getting 4 kids ready for school, making their sporting events, taking care of 3 dogs + 6 puppies now, keeping up with my college class, and of course, taking care of hubby. WHEW... wore out all ready! It's amazing I actually have time to go to work.

Dee... remember how you said you are a slow reader, well I bet you still read faster than I do. I'll start a book and have to start all over because it ends up getting put aside and I forget what I've read. Can't tell you how many times I've read chapter 1 over and over of various books.
