Karaoke Night
I spoke at a romance writer's conference in Seattle this weekend. On Saturday night the group had a Karaoke Night. Oh my goodness. I had the best time.
Another writer friend of mine sang R-E-S-P-E-C-T with me. Actually, she sang and I did the "moves." Then I sang "My Boyfriend's Back" and she did the moves. Watching the other writers in the group was just as much fun as participating.
I know cameras were snapping, but I didn't bring mine with me. (I know. What was I thinking?) So, alas, I have no photos to share with you.
It was a night of laughter, as well as a reminder as to why I'm a writer ... because I'm sure not a singer!! Ha! What about you? Any singers out there? Anybody else ever done Karaoke before?

Sounds like you all had a great time. And why would a scrapbook enthusiast leave her camera at home?
Does doing Karaoke at home in front of a much smaller audience count? Several years ago, daughter & I sang tons of songs by The Carpenters. It didn't take us long to realize that we should have taken the pillows out of the room ;-)

No, I've never had the courage to do karaoke. A friend of ours is a karaoke-meister or whatever they call it, though, so we've gone and watched him working the crowd, talking shy people into singing.
But he couldn't talk me into it!

Sounds like your are warming up just right, Susan, and are now ready for the "real thing."
Okay, Meg. Start slow. You know, singing in the car, in the shower, that kind of thing. Then gradually move up to what Susan did and before you know it, you'll be up on stage with the best of 'em!!

I can't imagine doing karaoke. But I have sung "Take The Skinheads Bowling" (by Camper Van Beethoven, of course) in front of hundreds of adoring fans. Oh yeah, while trying to impress my then-fiancee/now wife, I wrote and sang backup on a ridiculous song entitled "Love Theme (from the motion picture, Alive)"
If you heard either, you'd realize why I don't do karaoke.
btw, Deanne, don't know if I ever got to tell you how much I enjoyed "Bride" (my first historical romance!). Your ear for dialogue and humor are downright enviable.

Yes, isn't Bride a fun read? Even for a guy.
If Constance had lived in our century, she would have given karaoke a try. As long as she wasn't being forced into it, that is. :)

I've never done karaoke, but I did sing "Friends In Low Places" with a couple friends in Cheers. (It looks nothing like the TV set, but they make a mean Jack and Coke!)
I sing with a couple church choirs; I'm the one in the back having the best time while trying not to be noticed too much!

My goodness. I can see I will have to set up a Karaoke night at some point so y'all can all see how much fun it is! Now, we just need to decide when and where. Hmmmm.
