What's Your Favorite?

This is going to be "What's Your Favorite" Week. Each day, we are going to take one topic and compare favorites.

Today's topic: What's Your Favorite Fiction Novel?

This is hard to nail down, because I have so many books I love. But if pushed into a corner, I'd go with Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird as my all time favorite book across the board. As far as romance goes, LaVyrle Spencer has penned two that compete for this position on my list:

Years and Morning Glory. Both are secular romances, but are extremely well written and are full of mercy and grace (along with all the other stuff secular novels are filled with). So, if you have to be really careful about your reading material, you might want to pass.

So ... what's your favorite book and why?

ONE favorite fiction novel??? IMpossible! Morning Glory--great story of redemption (tho not G rated--the bad guys are icky for one thing :oP ). The Texan's Wager and Finding Mary Blaine by Jodi Thomas. Secular author who has a positive view of marriage and a great, quiet sense of humor. Wager has a twist that involves signing and a deaf girl; Mary Blaine is contemporary and involves the homeless. The Testament by John Grisham--great story of Christian redemption. Liz Higgs' Scottish series is total Scottish immersion and deep story-wise. The Mitford series is also really good in that it's an obviously Christian series that doesn't go into the ugliest side of life, and yet you don't feel like she's hiding the ugliness either. Just helps to give you a really positive view of people and situations you wouldn't normally feel that way about. I think those are the winners in my pile, at least for today! Oh! And then there's this other spunky story with a lady in a classy antique dress on the cover, crossing her fingers behind her back... :oD

To Kill a Mockingbird is lovely, but I am going to go with Ivanhoe. I love the heroism, and the faithfulness of Ivanhoe. Other notables include: The Sun Also Rises, Pride and Prejudice, and Tess of the D'urbervilles. The central theme is they are all love stories. One ends odd, One ends good, one ends bad.

I'm growing quite fond of Jane Austen's works.
Goose Girl by Shannon Hale was very enjoyable.
The Narnia and Lord of the Rings series, classic!
I'm just beginning your book Mrs. Gist - and it is fantastic so far!
