Unveiling LADY's Cover Art

{Note: Kids are home for vacation, so I will check in on our comments, but will not be posting anything new until the kids go back to school: Jan. 3rd. So ... Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!}

I don't know how many of you realize this, but authors do not get to choose the title of their books or what their covers are going to look like. So, when an email comes across your inbox that is called "Cover Art," lots of commotion occurs in your tummy!

I had been especially worried because the cover art for Bride was soooooo fantastic. I mean, how could they possibly top that? And yet, they did.

May I present to you ... ... the cover art for The Measure of a Lady, coming to a store near you this June:

So?? What do you think??

I absolutely love it! The work boots are perfect, combined with that dainty curtsey.

Wow, with covers like this, your stuff compares to Shakespeare! Definitely some kinda fine art or haute couture, that's for sure! :oD

Thanks, Rachel! So glad you stopped by. I love the cartoon lady on your blog!! She's great. Good luck with the laundry. Been there, done that.

Ooooh, Barb. Haute couture. I'm likin' the sound of that! ;-)

I like the boots, too, Meg. My character is all caught up in being the perfect lady, but San Francisco is so muddy that she wears secretly work boots under her dresses. Ha!

I'm not a regular reader of this blog, but when I came across your cover picture today I just stopped dead in my tracks. That is without a doubt one of the nicest book covers I have ever seen. Being a costume buff I am particular impressed with the authenticity of the dress--I dig those cartridge pleats! ;) This is one book I will definitely be reading when it comes out. =)

Gorgeous cover, Dee! Now I'll let you in on my little secret, and how I know when a writer has *made it*. And you've made it. How I know? Your name appears in larger print than the title of the book. That means it is YOUR name that will sell the book. Though I gotta say, that dress might sell it all by itself, too. Great cover. Congrats!

Deanne, you just have to be thrilled with that cover. You (and Bethany) seem to be batting a thousand. Congratulations!

Thanks, everybody. And you're right--I am definitely thrilled.

Val & Abigail - I told my editor we were just going to have to make it part of the contract that I get to keep the dresses on these covers. He laughed. I'm not sure he realized I was serious! :-)

It's gorgeous, Dee! And I think that since they've done two covers for you now with the lady's back facing out and dresses that they definitely have to continue that motif. It's striking.

I'm sure you have more stories in you waiting to come out, don't you? I mean, of course, that would fit the *theme* of your fab covers :)

Loved it when I saw it in the BH catalog, Dee, and excited to see it on the shelves. Also nice to see the cover displayed so prominently on the back of Bethany House's catalog--I think you've become an "anchor" author. :)
