Awards for Fiction Novels

After mentioning the Rita awards yesterday, I thought I would spend the next couple of days telling you about some of the other awards out there for fiction novels. That way, if you are in the store and see a "Winner of the [whatever] Award" you will know what they are talking about!

The American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) has a "Book of the Year" contest. The categories are:
  • Contemporary Fiction
  • Contemporary Romance
  • General Fiction
  • General Historical
  • Historical Romance - Long
  • Historical Romance - Short
  • Mystery/Suspense/Thriller
  • Novella
All of their entrants must have been published by a recognized Christian publisher. Winners are announced at their annual convention in September.

A new contest that is a little different from all the others is the "Judge A Book By Its Cover"competition. It is being put on by an RWA Chapter in the Galveston area, but submissions can be from any genre (not just romance). The entrant sends in a jpeg of their book cover and covers are then judged by booksellers from the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zeland. Categories include:
  • Single Title
  • Mainstream
  • Historical
  • Romantic Suspense
  • Science Fiction/Fantasy/Paranormal
Winners are announced February 6th and are published in the April issue of the Romance Writers Report.

Are you entering the cover contest? You should. Yours will blow away the competition.

Yay! You're entering Bride in the ACFW BOTY. I told Robin, the contest coordinator, to holler if she didn't see 3 copies of Bride arrive in the mail by the deadline...cuz I was going to hunt you down. LOL!

I'm judging in this one, just like last year. And 2 of the books I read made it to the finals. 1 of them took 1st prize. YAY!

Now, I just have to get my entry into the Genesis for a chance at Warner Faith.
