Oscar Who?

You know you're getting old when you don't recognize the movies nominated for Best Picture or the actors/actresses up for Oscars. I've not seen any of the movies nominated for Best Picture. I know (and love) only one of the actors nominated (Joaquin Phoenix, Walk the Line). I did a little better with the women. I know, watched and loved two of the actresses (Reese Witherspoon, Walk the Line and Keira Knightley, Pride & Prejudice) and have seen both Judi Dench and Charlize Theron in films, though not the ones they were nominated for.

What about you? Do you recognize any of these?

Best Picture Nominations:
  • Brokeback Mountain
  • Capote
  • Crash
  • Good Night, and Good Luck
  • Munich
Best Actor Nominations:
  • Philip Seymour Hoffman, Capote
  • Terrence Howard, Hustle & Flow
  • Heath Ledger, Brokeback Mountain
  • Joaquin Phoenix, Walk the Line
  • David Strathairn, Good Night, and Good Luck
Best Actress Nominations:
  • Judi Dench, Mrs. Henderson Presents
  • Felicity Huffman, Transamerica
  • Keira Knightley, Pride & Prejudice
  • Charlize Theron, North Country
  • Reese Witherspoon, Walk the Line

Uh, well, besides all the hullabaloo in the news about a coupla those names/titles, I thought Pride and Prejudice was pretty great!

I thought Crash was just shy of brilliant. Of course, it's not for everybody...it was rated R for a few good reasons.

But anyone interested in the comingling of 'art' and 'message' might want to take a peek. This movie shines a harsh light on the ugliness and futility and dangers of racism (not just black/white), sexims, age-ism and maybe another 'ism' or two.

Two thumbs...and both big toes...up!

I'm always hopelesly behind on my movie-watching, so I haven't seen any of these.

I really, really want to see Crash and Cash. Johnny, that is. The movie version.

Walk the Line is excellent, I think, and I've been cheering for Joaquin and Reese at all the awards shows. From the front row. Just kidding. About the row.
