Ask and You Shall Receive

After I posted the ad that Bethany House will run for The Measure of a Lady, y'all had some questions. So, I contacted our head advertising exec over at BHP--Tim Peterson--and he agreed to do an interview for us.
I am to send him your questions and he will answer them to the best of his ability and then I will post his responses.
Here are the questions you have so far:
- Do any of these ads go out to secular publications?
- How is that determined?
- How is it determined which venues the retail book ends up in?
Now, he might not be able to answer question #3 because he specializes more in the advertising end of things, not sales. At least, I think he does. Maybe that can be one of our questions: What is it you do exactly, Tim??
Any others?

Ooo, almost like a virtual audience with the Pope or something! Lessee--what are the basics that you always do to advertise a book, no matter the title or content? And what's the most effective form of advertising (besides word of mouth), in his view? And how does advertising strategy for a novel differ than that for a factual book? And are there any fundamental differences in advertising approach between Christian and secular publishers? If those questions make sense....

Great questions!!! I'll pass them along and then give Tim a couple weeks to answer, then post the interview for y'all.
