Texas Traffic
Houston is synonymous with traffic. Lots of traffic. But I got a tickle out of a traffic report on the radio a couple of days ago. The gal came on the air to identify the "trouble spots" in town so us motorists could avoid them and she says:
"There are a couple of bulls loose on the North Loop and traffic is backed up. The sheriff is on the scene."
I thought to myself, Now how many other big cities in our great country get traffic reports like that? Later in the hour, the same reporter mentions that one of the bulls took a disliking to the sheriff's patrol car and began to attack it, ramming in the driver's door. The officer inside the vehicle had to escape out the passenger door.
I bet he had a story or two to tell over dinner when he got home!

Hmm. We've had loose horses and sheep running in our area, dogs, kitties, and turtles, but no bulls--you're right! Tho I think we'll let you keep the bulls--ramming cars is no joke! :o0

Here in metro Atlanta, we've had black bears coming down from the mountains. Last week, one was caught at a mall about twenty minutes from here. Yesterday, one was strolling down a street near downtown. The police made a cordon with their cars so they could contain him behind a Home Depot until the DNR guys could get there and take over. No bulls lately, though. That must be a Texas thang.

Good grief, Meg. How scary.
And you're right, Barb. The officer was not hurt, but one of the bulls ended up being hit by a car and had to be put down. The fella that hit him suffered minor hand/arm injuries.
So, even though I got a chuckle out of the report when it came across the air waves, it becomes very sobering once the damage assessment is done.

No bulls in our area (east coast mid-atlantic)...but I just got back from L.A. area and there were peacocks running wild in Arcadia, CA. Someone owned them a while back but the place closed down and now they run free. Boy, are they noisy!
Ever had to brake for a peacock? :)
And how about the local Weather Channel giving traffic reports on the major interstates? Then again, this *is* L.A. and smog is a major contributor to the weather conditions.

Breaking for a peacock. Can't say I have. So ... what noise do they make?
