Me & Meg
Meg Moseley and I have been critique partners for over two years. I first met her on an online writer's discussion board that was facilitated by an editor at Bethany House (who a few weeks later, offered me a contract for Bride). So, Meg was with me when I made my first sale and when I plotted out Lady and wrote it chapter by chapter.
She did the same for next summer's title, Courting Trouble, and in exchange I critiqued three of her manuscripts chapter by chapter--all of which are fabulous and will be available for your reading pleasure as soon as the editor God has designed for Meg offers her a contract! I discuss daily with God my impatience in waiting for this event. But, as always, He has His own timetable and doesn't seem to kowtow to mine. ;-)
When I went to the RWA convention a few weeks ago, Meg and her husband picked me up at the airport for our first face-to-face meeting. We spotted each other in the crowd immediately and didn't stop talking from that moment on.
Her man is just as sweet and handsome as they come and indulged us while we both sat in the backseat chattering away while he sat in the front driving! The photo of us was taken at the dessert reception after the Rita Award ceremony where we abandoned "networking" for chocolate covered fruit and our own company.
Y'all, of course, know Meg from her comments here on my blog, but I wanted to let you meet her face-to-face, too. I will get to see her two times next month. In mid-September we're meeting in Atlanta, renting a convertible and then driving to Asheville, NC where we will be immersed in an intensive writer's retreat. The following week we will be at the ACFW event in Dallas where Bride is up for Book of the Year. Can't wait to see her again! Til then, y'all give Meg a big ol' howdy, for me. Ya hear?

Wow, Miz Meg is a pretty spiffy lookin' chick! Luv the sparkles. Considering all the time she spends on motorcycles, I expected more denim and leather! Sounds like y'all have a fun fall planned!

Dee, your post today was a nice surprise! I'd forgotten that you had somebody take our picture at RWA.
Your friendship is such a blessing. Now I can't imagine writing without talking things over with you via phone or email. Can't wait for our September activities. There'll be chocolate, right?!
Barb, I live in denim but I love sparkles too. If I find a sparkly denim dress someday, I'll buy it!

Ha! Now that's an interesting concept! Do you write romance too, or in other exciting categories?
3:56 PM
I've written one romantic comedy and one romantic suspense. I've almost finished one that might be called women's fiction, or maybe it should be called a contemporary stand-alone. Whatever it is, it's my favorite out of my "babies" so far. Dee has been so, so helpful with her weekly critiques.

Wow, you're ambitious! Does your husband read your stuff too, or no?

I wish!! I think there are two kinds of brains in the world: fiction brains and non-fiction brains. My husband has the NF variety.
But he tolerates, even encourages, my fiction habit, so he's A-OK with me.

Hah! I've already gotten to meet Meg twice. And when she's a big famous author, I'm going to tell everyone that she used my cell phone once!
Congrats again, Dee. Looking forward to meeting you and hanging out with Meg again.

Mike, when you're a big famous author, any day now, I'm going to tell everybody that you were once my cell-phone tutorial facilitator or something impressive like that.
Don't worry, I have my own cell phone now. I even know how to use it, mostly.
6:35 AM
This fiction/nonfiction brain thing--I'd never thought of that. So, like, if Miz Dee wrote nonfiction about oil rigs and helicopters and sporting events and such, then her husband would just eat her books right up, huh?
8:33 AM
Mike: Meg has a cell phone and she does *not* know how to use it.
Barb: The only thing Greg "eats up" in the literary world is the Sports Page of the newspaper.
9:14 PM
C'mon Dee, at least I know how to answer the dang thing! Hmmph!

Well now, since God saw fit to give me Meg as an ACFW conference mentor, I was feeling GREAT when I found out I got a F*I*F'er, now I'm feeling like God is up there holding His hand over His mouth giggling at me. He's thinking, "Watch this...Michelle didn't know Deeanne and Meg were crit partners..."
Meg--put me on the bubblier side of bubbly today now that God's had His fun with me. :D
I'm thrilled that I get to be in Dallas and the more I study the intricacies of how it has come to be, the more humbled I become.

Hey Michelle, fancy meeting you here! I just "saw" you over on one of Mr. Bertrand's blogs, too. It's a small world!
