The Case of the Ignored Camera
I have this great little digital camera and I bring it to these conferences ... and never take any photos. Why is that? I confess to feeling a bit awkward when I whip out the camera and ask folks to "look here!" or "smile!" And part of it is follow-through. I think to myself that I ought to take a picture, then I sit there and don't do it. So ... I have no pics of all the great people I met face-to-face at ACFW. I managed to snap one of Mark Bertrand while he was toasting my editor (with water, no less) and I have a photo of my new friends, D'Ann Mateer and Mary DeMuth. But I hung out with so many other folks and never took a photo and now I really wish I had.
My daughters even drove up to go shopping with me and I didn't get a pic of them either! What kind of mom does that??
Anyhoo, I am posting the two lonely photos I took that entire time. Mary (DeMuth) took a group photo of those of us who went out after the Book of the Year ceremony. When she emails it to me, I'll post it for you. But she lives in France, so I'm not sure when I'll get it. Another online buddy and author, Deborah Gyapong, took that same photo. So, maybe she'll send it to me sooner. In any event, there will be names and faces you recognize in that photo, so I'll be sure to share.
Meanwhile, I will try and do better next year!

You took two pictures more than I did, so don't feel bad.
What a great conference. I had a wonderful time and came away both exhausted and refreshed.

I e-mail back and forth between the Midwest and Marseille all the time with a student we hosted years ago and it usually goes just fine. Just read a neat profile of Mary D's family in a book we have here too. 2 pictures are better than none, Miz Dee! Gives us a fun little taste at least--good job!

What a fun picture! Thanks for posting it, Deeanne. It was so great to meet and hang out with you.
I have to tell you--I'm at a point in Bride where I'm about to be a bad mommy because I'm having trouble putting it down!

Well, folks, Mary sent me that photo I was telling you about. I'll post it next week.
Was great to meet you, too, D'Ann. And don't feel bad. My four year old once "ran away" and I didn't even know it because I was lying on the couch reading a romance.
He had been shooting baskets with his brother and I thought he had come inside when his brother did. Never even missed him until some stranger knocked on my door and said, "Is this your kid?"
"Yes," I said, surprised.
"Well, we found him at the intersection of Cypresswood and Ella." (which was the biggest four way intersection in our neighborhood)
I was so horrified, I grabbed my son by the ear, pulled him inside, shut the door and fell apart. I was in such shock I don't even think I thanked the lady for walking him home while her husband tailed them in their car. But I've prayed blessings on her lots of times since!!
