Hakuna Matata
Open House at the high school was last night. Greg went to our daughter's classes, I went to our son's (the eyeball on the left). In English, the teacher had asked the kids to do a poster collage that represented who they were. One of the requirements was to incorporate into the collage 5 mottos the child lived by.
The teacher had lined the walls with these works of art and as I sat there reading the ones closest to my desk, I was surprised and pleased at how many of the kids included Scriptures, along with inspirational quotes--some made up, others from well known sources like Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King, Mark Twain and more.
Here are a few of them:
"Without faith, nothing is possible. With it, nothing is impossible."
"Try not to become a man of success, But rather a man of value."
"To succeed, we must first believe that we can."
"It is easier to excise letters cut into stone, Than to unsay what has been said."
So, after the teacher's presentation was over, I browsed the room looking for my son's poster, anxious to see what mottos he lived by. This is what he wrote down:
"Youth wastes away, But immaturity can last a lifetime."
"They say hard work never hurts anybody, But why take the chance?"
"I don't have an attitude problem, You have a perception problem."
"May the force be with you."
"Hakuna Matata"
In retrospect, I suppose one of two things was happening here. Either, horror of horrors, he was serious. Or ... he knew there could be no wrong answers and the class clown in him took over. Truthfully, I think it was most likely a combination of both.
Still, I had to chuckle. Who says Open House at the high school level is boring or a waste of time?

He forgot to mention chocolate! My husband's mottos are: No whining. Attitude is everything. Life isn't fair. No chocolate in his either, sigh.
So what are yours, Miz Dee???

Oh, golly. That would take some serious thinking and my brain is fried (my book was due today to my publisher today and I'm still trying to make a few, um, changes to the ending).
So, off the top of my head: 2 Peter 1:5-8

Well, those are noble goals--good for you! So when does the next book come out???? Can we have it by Christmas??? Pleeze??

PS--Did you think of making your book one of those you-choose-the-ending-types, like they have for kids? You write it about 3/4 of the way through, then have a page that sez (in bold) WEWJC: What ending would Jesus choose? Then offer us 3, and we'll decide!

I love his first comment! Sadly, I know people like that who are older than me chronologically and younger than my teens mentally...

He's obviously very clever! Where does he get that, I wonder??
my book was due today to my publisher today -- I know you didn't mean it as such, but do you realize that's a teaser?? Just makes me want to know when I can get it. lol

Barb, All my books will be coming out in early summer. Even though I turn my manuscript in now, lots has to go on besides the printing process: Edits, cover art, promotion, advertising, reviews, proofs, production, etc. And remember, BHP puts out about 30 books a season, so it takes a while to go through the process. Sorry!
As far as choose your own ending, I'm not sure the publisher would go for that. But it is definitely an intriguing idea.
Yeah, Jen, I got a chuckle outta that first one.

Oh yeah, all that extraneous stuff. You'd think in a computerized age they could speed things up better!
Hope you sent a picture of your boots to the cover artists, so they know how real Texas heroines dress!
