Honey-Do List

I've turned in next year's book to the publisher. I've finished the last of my travel for 2006 (so far as I know). So I am finally turning my attention to that "Honey-Do" list that's been waiting in the wings. First on the list: Clean Out My Closet.

I wish I had thought to take a picture of it before I started cleaning, but I didn't. I was so anxious to get started that I simply tossed *everything* out of the closet and let it land where it may. Every available inch in my bedroom was covered. I had a stack of clothes to giveaway that was almost as high as the console. Shoes carpeted the bathroom floor. And I felt humbled and not a little embarrassed at all that stuff.

I found tap shoes from college. A crinioline. Maternity clothes. A sword. The shoes I got married in. A cashmere coat of my grandmother's. I even found Christmas gifts I was supposed to have given to the kids years ago and had forgotten all about.

I'm doing Beth Moore's study of Daniel. She's been talking about what a self-indulgent culture we live in. She reminded us that the world's definition of someone rich is anyone who can afford to buy a book and has the education to read it. Boy, did I feel convicted.

So, I gave away a bunch of it. Organized the rest of it. And made two trips to the Container Store in order to put it back on the shelves and racks in some semblance of order. I started at 8:00 in the morning and didn't finish until 11:00 that night.

Next on the list? Go do all those annual check-ups women over 40 are required to do these days. Bleck.

Gasp--those look like the shoes I wear to dance lessons with my husband. 'Cept we don't do tap! Are they Capezios??? My Mom's finally going through about 40 years of stuff and what she doesn't want--she brings to me. Sigh....

Yep. They're Capezios. I think they are such sharp lookin' shoes. Course, I love shoes period. And it was awfully tough to let that particular pair go. Yet I know I will never be doing anymore tap. So ... off they went.

You wear Capezios to dance class, Barb? What fun!!

Gasp--you gave away your Capezios??? Couldn't you walk in 'em without tapping really loudly? I have some beaded black sandals too, with wrap-around ankle straps, but the Capezios are the ultimate. My dancing becomes too stilted in the sandals, not that I'm that accomplished to start with. Got any pix of you tap dancing???

Dee,

What happens with your next book, now that you've given it to your publisher? Translation: HOW LONG DO WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR IT??;-)

I am constantly trying to pare down. We live in a house with 1/2 a closet . . . in my daughter's room, where we have all our linens, cleaning stuff, games, and her clothes. Ah, France! Patrick and I have small Ikea armoires, which don't allow for a lot of stuff. And still, I find myself pruning.

DO go do all those screenings 40-year-old women are supposed to have done. I'll be 41 in November and am an 18 month breast cancer survivor. If the tumor had been caught earlier (by mammogram or ultrasound), chances are I wouldn't have had to have a mastectomy or chemotherapy. God was very gracious (like he always is) and has blessed me with a good recovery and great prognosis. But routine screenings has become a passion of mine. And since I'm probably preaching to the choir, I will quietly step off my soap box, now. :o)

No pics that I know of, Barb.

*Courting Trouble* is a June release, Katybug. As a matter of fact, all my books will be summer releases, most likely in June.

Half a closet! Ohmygosh, Mary.

You're absolutely right, Jen. I skipped last year's. I'll try to be more consistent. Thanks for that word from the wise. I need to be more faithful in this area.

Dee, I love your title "Courting Trouble." Is it to be a series? Will it play off any of the characters in "Lady" or "Bride"? What is the time period? Can't wait for its June release. Hey, check out Michelle Hutchinson's long review of "Lady". It's super. If you don't know her web page addy I'll get it to you. She's a member of ACFW.
