Oops, She Did It Again!
You may recall our 17 year old daughter (the one in the red shirt) snapped her collar bone in half at the beginning of the summer. Well, she was officially released for "full contact" sports. The day after her release, she shouldered another soccer player off the ball and broke her collar bone again.
Obviously, it wasn't as healed as it looked on x-rays. Now, she has to strap this "bone stimulator" to her collar bone twice a day for a month. It sends some kind of ultrasound waves to the bone and stimulates it to grow. They use these on professional athletes and olympians who need to have their bones heal as quickly as possible.
Hopefully, this will do the trick. Meanwhile, she is soooo disappointed. Soccer season doesn't officially start until January, so she's still got a little bit of time. (But she's afraid her "touch" on the ball will be too slow or inaccurate or something.) I'm sure it will all work out. But I do feel sorry for her.

I was just thinkin', oo, I'd freak out every time she got knocked in that spot now! And then you said she broke it again. Oh the agony!

Yeah, it really stinks. She started on Varsity as a sophomore last year and she guards that position pretty jealously. I know she's anxious for this thing to heal so she can re-establish herself on the field, ya know?
Nothin' to do now, but wait.

Maybe you'll hafta get her workin' on some meaningful holiday crafts to help keep her mind off of her inability to play for awhile!

Poor thing!! I can only imagine her disappointment.
Will hope and pray for a speedy and FULL recovery this time!

Ouch!! And so disappointing!! Paul's team (coaches Varsity boys) is heading to play-offs this weekend. They are undefeated and it's his first year to coach this high school team. My son Elliot is one of 3 Freshman on the team. But will be hoping for a speedy recovery for your daughter!!

We have two daughters. Neither took interest in the guitar, but they both took piano lessons for years. That's just as bad, though, talking about going over and over and over AND OVER a song. And then they still didn't get it right sometimes, and I'm in the other room biting my tongue to keep from saying, "Start again, you missed a chord." They're grown today. They're both pretty accomplished keyboardists, but it doesn't happen overnight, that's for sure. And by the way, Karen Carpenter was my hubbie's fave. He always said he had a serious crush on her. When she died, he went into mourning.
Hey, if anyone gets the chance, check out my very own, brand new web site (if I may be so bold as to put in a plug for my upcoming book) www.sharlenemaclaren.com
It's very fun chiming in on Dee's exciting life, and reading everyone's fun comments.
Blessings, everyone!

Oh, Dee, your poor girl. One broken collar bone sounds painful enough--but twice?
One of my girls was an athlete, the other just involved in choirs and band. My "athlete" daughter used to get shin splints something terrible every track season. One year they were so bad in one leg her doctor ordered her to use crutches and stay off it for a minimum of three weeks. Did she listen? No. She was too embarrassed to use crutches in school. Plus, she continued running, even though the pain nearly killed her. As parents it's hard to keep our mouths shut sometimes.
Blessings,
Shar
