Speaking of Book Covers
Hey, speaking of book covers (see yesterday's post), check out this summer release by Ann Roth. Look familiar?
As it so happens, I know Ann and we had our heads together this summer at a writer's convention as we compared our covers. I haven't read hers and she hasn't read mine, but we got a kick out of the whole crossed-fingers-behind-your-back thing. Ann's a real sweetheart and, actually, she kinda looks like that gal on her cover!

As many of you know, authors usually have no idea what their covers are going to look like (or even what their titles will be) until the news/images trickles down from the publisher. I have a friend whose female protagonist had three arms on the front cover--seriously!!! Somehow the art department forgot to photoshop one of the arms. Can you imagine??
Look closely at Christina Dodd's Castles in the Air: The hero is holding one hand, the heroine is leaning on another hand and her *third* hand is tucked into the folds of her gown. But good can come out of everything. Christina received tons of attention from the press for this faux pas! Btw, guess what the first line of the book is: "She had all her teeth, ..." Ha!

I've loved the Christina Dodd three-arm cover since I first saw it a few years ago. Somewhere, there's a whole website devoted to such cover-art badness but I don't remember the address. I'm glad she's such a good sport about it.
Your cover art has been beautiful, Dee. It's eye-catching without having any extra limbs. Can't wait to see Courting Trouble.

3 arms almost adds an alien dimension to the story?!

You've been so blessed with your cover art, Dee. They've been simply beautiful.
A lot of authors who frequent the same reader's board I do complain about the cover art they get stuck with. Especially when the heroine, let's say, has blond hair in the story, but it's red on the cover. Though I do suppose that would be more acceptable than a heroine with three arms. LOL!!!

Y'all are right about my cover art. I have been truly blessed. Our national sales rep told me a couple of weeks ago that Paul Higdon (Bethany House's Art Director) is a "treasure."
Amen to that!!

That is just too funny!!!! But isn't that what every mom dreams of? More arms to juggle every thing and carry more? Frankly, I'm rather jealous of the girl. ;-)
Better to have a mistake in the art rather than in the book. I read a book recently where the author originally described one of the characters as having blue eyes; 20 pages later the same character has brown eyes. Later on in the same book when the two main characters left the cruise ship they were on to go ashore, they have ONE HOUR for their excursion. In the next chapter they returned to the ship TWO HOURS later. That being said, I really enjoyed the book, in spite of the mistakes. :-)
