Teaser For Next Summer's Release

The manuscript I just turned in, Courting Trouble, is a June release. It is about Essie Spreckelmeyer, who turns thirty in 1895 and decides she is through waiting on the Lord for a husband. So, she writes down the names of all the eligible bachelors in her small Texas town, makes a list of their attributes and drawbacks, closes her eyes, twirls her finger, and ... picks one.

It is a stand-alone book (has nothing to do with Bride or Lady or the characters in either of those books). Bethany House is working on the cover art as we speak. I won't have anything to show you for another couple of months, yet. But rest assured, I'll give you a look-see as soon as I can!

Yippy!! I can't wait!!

I've been meaning to tell you, I have a very dear friend who is a missionary in Estonia. The family was in the States in February for her oldest son's funeral (killed in Iraq) and I gave her "A Bride Most Begrudging." She, of course, loved it and I just recently sent her "The Measure of a Lady".

Understandably, it took her a while before she felt like reading anything other than her Bible. But when she did, your books gave her a small respite from her grief.

Just thought you should know that. :o)

Wow, that's quite a story for an author to hear! Will there be a bicycle tire next to Miss Essie's dress and shoes on the cover of this upcoming book??

Oh, Jen. Bless her heart. It grieves me everytime I hear the news that one of our own has made such a sacrifice for those of us here at home. I will pray for her and her family. Please send her my condolences and love.

Barb, I never know anything until they send it to me. Kinda like Christmas.

Ha! Well Christmas is usually a good thing, at least! If you didn't like something on the cover, would they change it for you? Or does an author just hafta go with what the publisher comes up with?

I have no idea. They've done nothing but given me *BEAUTIFUL* covers, so I've never had to cross that particular road--thank goodness!

I can tell you this much, though--I usually see the cover art at the same time as the printer for the sales catalog, if that tells ya anything. ;-)
