Word Fun
The English language has at least one nine-letter word that remains a word as each of its letters is successively removed, right down to a single letter. That word is "startling":
- startling
- remove the l, and the word becomes: starting
- remove one t, and the word becomes: staring
- remove the a, and the word becomes: string
- remove the r, and the word becomes: sting
- remove the other t, and the word becomes: sing
- remove the g, and the word becomes: sin
- remove the s, and the word becomes: in
- remove the n, and the word becomes: I
See if you can do cleansers or splatters or stringier. Can you think of any others?
For different games and puzzles, visit the "Games" tab on my website. We have some jigsaw puzzles, word searches, slider puzzles and hang man games.

At the risk of revealing what a word geek I am, I confess that I have played this game many, many times, to survive boring classes or whatever.
Good practice for Scrabble.

I've never played this game. But I love Scrabble! See the inside of our book jacket, "Married but not Engaged," ... it says I LOVE playing Scrabble and my husband says he hates it! True! With all those words floating around in his brain, you'd think he'd like it!
Dee, do you and Greg play Scrabble?

I like word games, but this is a new one to me! My husband likes palindromes...words that spell the same thing forward & backwards, like mom, dad, racecar. His favorite--as well as the longest we've seen--is the following phrase: Go hang a salami I'm a lasagna hog.

LOL, Katy!!
Greg and I are not scrabble players. We're terrible at it. We prefer simple games ... like Go Fish!! ;-)
(Though we're always up for a party, Barb!)
