Christmas Puzzle

Every other year or so, the girls and I do our favorite puzzle. It is a 2000 piece Coca-Cola Christmas puzzle that takes us from Thanksgiving to Christmas to finish. I'm very particular about what kind of puzzle I'm willing to do. I don't much care for puzzles that are mostly one color (like a snow scene or a wheat field or something like that). I like a lot of variety in my puzzles because I put them together using visual clues (as opposed to by the way the pieces are shaped).

So, this puzzle is perfect. It is a collage of vintage Coca-Cola ads. It's like putting together a bunch of mini-puzzles. Here is a progression of our work week-by-week:

Week One: Edge pieces and ...

... Coca-Cola signs

Week Two & Three: People

Week Four: All Done!

I saw another Coca-Cola puzzle I wanted this year in the Hallmark store. It is called "Santa's Workshop." According to both my mom and Greg, they were all sold out. (I guess I should have given them the internet link. Didn't think about it, actually.)

Ah, well. There is always next year! Do you do puzzles? Do you have a favorite?

Oh my word, can you do anything without organizing it?!?! 'Course there was the Thanxgiving desk incident, I guess. I really enjoy puzzles when I don't feel a lotta time pressure. Then there's the little issue of whether I can get anyone else involved, but usually my husband will get sucked in at some point, unable to resist a mindless problem that needs solving (to be distinguished from the mundane problems that must be solved everyday to keep life functioning).

You're right. I have serious organizational issues. Busted.

At the same time, I'm messy by nature. Not so my husband. He's neat by nature.

He also can't do puzzles. It's not his thing. And he doesn't like it when I set the table up to do one. It clutters up the living room, he says. Now that the puzzle's all done, he wants to know why I haven't put it back in the box and folded up the table. :-)

Ooh, a puzzle for Christmas! What a great idea. I even have a spot for a card table, out of traffic. And I might even get the boys to help put it together.

I don't know where our old puzzles are. Guess I'll have to buy a new one.

Eeeeoooouuuu! Puzzles! Just the thought of one gives me a headache! No, not for me. I might sit down and look for a piece for about 2 minutes. ha! If it doesn't show up I'm outa there. Now if I find a piece right away, my adrenalyn starts pumping, encouraging me to try for a couple more pieces, but if I don't find them soon--watch out! Don't have the patience.

Now, Scrabble...that's another story. I can sit and look at my letter tray for five minutes trying to find the perfect word while everybody sighs and yawns and goes searching for something to eat. That drives my daughter crazy. She's since set a time limit on our Scrabble playing. No one gets longer than about 90 seconds per turn. Thus I end up with such words as "the" and "was" and "me". The scrooge.

Christmas Blessings,
Shar

Gasp--Sandy! Another Scrabble player!
You should put puzzle glue all over this year's and give it to Mr Greg as a gift! He could hang it on his wall, in an uncluttered position, and think of you all year! :o)

Scrabble. Eeeeeooooouuuu!! I'm *terrible* at Scrabble. I think it is because I used to have dyslexia as a kid and seeing all those scrambled letters does something to my psyche, you know?

As far as gluing the puzzle goes, I'd only glue it if I had two of the same puzzle because I love putting it together so much. Though, the kids all tell me it would make an awesome wall hanging in our game room. Mr. Gist has offered no comment. ;-)

I love Scrabble! Hubby and I are at about the same skill level, so the competition is fierce. Not that we're any good at it, but it's still fierce competition.

And I just picked up a new jigsaw puzzle for the family for Christmas, half price.

My hubby andI are not at the same skill level with Scrabble. It's hard to explain. He's only played once with me.
I love the puzzle, Dee! During Thanksgiving weekend we pulled a new one out and it was really fun. I agree, it has to have a LOT of color, or there's no way I'm wasting my time.

Merry Christmas to all!

Soooo when we have a Dee's Blog party we'll hafta have a long table with Scrabble on one end and a puzzle on the other so people can choose their favorite activity, or bounce back and forth!

I have trouble finishing a to-do list. A 2000-piece puzzle would push me over the edge.

EJ - I haven't managed to finish my to-do list either ... but that's because I've been doing my puzzle instead of my to-do list! Ha!

Sounds like a fun party, Barb!
