Crazy Weather
It was 74 degrees outside when I woke up yesterday morning (as it had been for most of November). In a span of about 25 minutes, the temperature plummeted 30 degrees. The change occurred so quickly it fogged up the windows of the house. By lunchtime, it was in the mid-thirties, raining and windy. An all round miserable day.

The good news is, we got to turn on the fireplace. I suppose that sounds a bit odd. Usually one "lights" a fire in the fireplace. But we have one of those new-fangled gas fireplaces that's operated by a remote control. You simply push the red button on the remote and whoosh--the fire's going strong. (Greg calls it "instant romance." ha!) You can't really see it in the photo, but the fire is burning.
Today the wind and rain are gone, replaced by blue skys and sunshine. It's still in the 30s, but oh so pretty. I saw on the TV that the mid-west is taking a beating weather-wise. What's it like where you are?

Uh, freaking cold, but the snow is pretty and we keep filling the wood burner! Them new-fangled gas burners are too slick for us country folk!

I "turned on" my fireplace today as well! Two days ago the temps were in the low 60s and I didn't even wear a coat to go Christmas shopping. Last night the snow started blowing in, and literally every school was closed today.
I think we got in the neighborhood of 10 inches of the white stuff, and it's the perfect packing kind we kids used to dream of getting. Perfect for snowballs, forts, and snowmen. But I think the temps are going up, so it will all be gone in a day or so.
Frankly, I could do without the snow until December 24. If it melted around December 29 and stayed gone, oh, I'd be a happy puppy. I live in West Michigan, so I guess I should expect snow, huh. But that don't mean I gotta like it. (smile)
Blessings, everyone!
Shar
P.S. Got a big carton of books in the mail, and my name was on each one. Ooh, it's so fun when that happens. Looks like my release date might be ahead of schedule. I'm smiling and praising my Lord.

We had a high of 72 today! Then the wind came, then rain and wind, then just rain and plummeting temps. Very odd weather we're having.
I thought we'd have colder winters when we moved to Pennsylvania from Arkansas, but Arkansas was much colder today. lol

Yeah, it is crazy weather. We have some friends who went down to Florida over Thanksgiving and into this week. Florida got a cold spell that plummeted their temps, making it warmer in Michigan than in Florida. Needless to say, our friends were a bit peeved by that. I think it's so funny.

We had the same weather in Austin as you did in Houston, Dee. At least the roads weren't icy. I can take cold...I don't do icy.
We are in the process of moving and have much of our things packed up & put in a storage unit. Unfortunately, someone put our winter coats in there too! My 7-year-old daughter had to borrow one of my coats for school on Friday! She looked really funny, and as long as she was giving someone something to laugh at, she didn't mind. She also wore some Santa earmuffs that are HUGE (adorable...from Cracker Barrel). She claimed she was going to be the riot of the day. And she was right!

Katybug, did you take a picture of your little 'urchin' in your coat? That would have been a cute one to add to your book of memories. Is she in first or second grade? I taught 2nd for 27 years and 4th for 4. That age group is so fun -- and funny.

No, Sharlene, but we have to do it again Monday morning as her coat is still MIA! Pictures will be a high priority, since I didn't do it last week. Adding to her cuteness is the fact that she's missing her 2 front teeth! I have loved this age (she is a 2nd grader)...it has been very silly. :-) Every time I think life with her can't get any better, it always does. :-) She is such a special girl!

Oh, Katybug (that can't be your real name!--unless you're from the south--as in Dee's case--and you have a family tree full of "odd" names), I can just imagine how cute she is. Not much is cuter on this planet than a second grader. I'm sure I would have picked her as one of my faves, even though we teachers aren't supposed to do that. Sometimes it just can't be helped.
Blessings,
Shar

I think the kids are soooo cute when they are missing their two front teeth. How precious! Shar is right, Katybug. Store up these memories!
