Murder, Darling, Murder

I was in Denver this weekend for RomCon. It was a Romance Readers convention and it was an absolute blast. We spent the weekend hanging out with readers and other authors. One of the games we played was Murder, Darling, Murder. It was a murder mystery where five authors were the suspects and the readers had to figure out who was the murderer.

The murder was set in Bigroot, CO during WWII. I played Lilly White (she had a checkered past). At first I figured I'd be able to get into character right away because Lilly White sounds so Southern. But as it ends up, Lilly was of German descent! Jawohl! So I did the best I could. Here's a peek at part of my monologue:

LOL. Everyone was a good sport and I was really impressed with the company that created the mystery. They are Mysteries by Vincent and if you want to do a mystery dinner party, I highly recommend you checking out their website. Because of time constraints, we couldn't set the room up with all the trimmings (where the parlor looked like a parlor and the conservatory looked like a conservatory), but if you did this at home, you could really go all out.

Here's the group of authors (suspects) who played in our game:

From left to right: Keena Kincaid, Cindy Gerard, Brenda Novak, Carolyn Crane, & me.
The above pic is with Samuel Soloman. He was in the next murder mystery game.

I have more pics up on Facebook from not just this game, but from all the fun events we did. Check it out at facebook.com/IWantHerBook.

What about you? Have you ever done a mystery dinner or game before? This one was my first.

Never have done that, but it's a lot of fun seeing you involved! You enjoy costumes so much, does Mr Greg ever dress up with you? Or the whole family?

Two of the four kids like to dress up in costume (one girl, one boy) and the other girl likes to dress up for Halloween, but Greg isn't interested in the least, nor is the youngest son. :) I, however, LOVE to play dress up!

One year for my birthday we had a murder mystery. I can't remember all the details, but it had to do with Chinese food. So before the party we went out to eat chinese food. Then we came back and played the game. I still have it up in a closet somewhere. It made me feel very grownup. I think I might of been like 12 or 13.

That looks and sounds like a lot of fun! There is a game called Mafia that I've played before with a group of friends. Everyone gets a card for the Mafia, a cop, doctor or townsperson. It's been a while since we played but everyone closes their eyes and the Mafia (and the host) opens theirs and vote on who to kill. Then the cops open theirs (and the host) and guess who is in the mafia. Then everyone wakes up and the host says who was murdered and whom the cops suspect. Then all the townspeople vote if they agree with the cop (and if so they vote/kill him off) and the doctor can heal somebody every so often. It's fun to be the host and see the mafia try to play innocent and try to guess who the cops are. The cops win if they get rid of all the mafia and vice versa. haha It sounds complicated but it was a lot of fun with a big group of people.

I've played Mafia too. Its most fun when your camping and you stay up late to do it. Everyone always knew when I was part of the Mafia, or lying to the police, I'm not a very good liar.

Evelyn- I was the same way! I have a hard time bluffying sometimes. haha If I did "play it cool" my heart was beating out of my chest the whole time. haha I imagine doing it around a camp fire would be a lot of fun!
