Crawfish Yodel
We hosted our annual Crawfish Boil this weekend. Fifty-plus family and friends showed up for 270 pounds of crawdads!! There were so many people we had to use name tags this year! My nephew (whom you'll see in the video below) made name tags for Greg and me. He wrote "Craw Momma" on my name tag and "Craw Daddy" on Greg's. LOL.
This particular nephew (Dan) makes a cameo appearance in my new book, A Bride in the Bargain. (He's the one who goes off to war with Anna's little brother.) Anyhoo, he came to the house the night before the crawfish boil, as did our 21 yo son. The two of them spent hours helping Greg set up canopies, cover tables with brown paper, set up the cooking station, line all the garbage cans, organize coolers. Then they came inside and helped me make the relish tray for hamburgers and hot dogs (for the non-bug eaters), bake brownies, make rice krispie treats, chop onions & lemons and all sorts of stuff. :)
The morning of the boil, Dan went with Greg to pick up the crawfish. He and our 21 yo son helped us with all the last minute stuff (another several hours worth of work). During the event, Greg's brother Phil helps with the cooking. I asked my girls to take some video of the event with our camcorder.
Well, the girls thought it would be a lark to surprise their Craw Momma with a puppet show using crawdads as the puppets. (They used dead ones. I don't want you to think my sweet girls were abusing live crawfish.) Anyhoo, things got busy and they never did make that video. But after everyone was gone and all was cleaned up, they told me about it.
Well, I insisted they finish what they'd started. I told them I would do the taping if they would do the show. So here it is. The puppeteers are (from left to right):
My 26 yo nephew, Dan (His mom, Gayle, is my sister. I acknowledge her in BARGAIN for all her help during the writing of it.)
My 19 yo daughter (The cover model on BARGAIN.)
My 21 yo son (The one who got married this time last year.)
My 22 yo daughter (The one that graduated college last week.)
The costume designers are my niece (Gayle's daughter, Dan's sister) and my daughter-in-law (our 21 yo son's wife.)
I think the thing I enjoyed most was watching how tickled the kids got. Especially at the very beginning when Dan was so emphatic about not being taped. I love watching my kids reactions to his plea. Hahahaha.
I think we were all a little loopy with exhaustion after all that work. I hope you enjoyed a peek into the Gist Crawfish Celebration!
Our daughter graduated college this weekend. This is our oldest and our first college graduate. I didn't expect to get so choked up, but I did. It represents such a big accomplishment and also a big turning point.
If you think about it, school is all she's ever known. Out of 22 years of life, 17 of those have been spent in school. And now, overnight, out she goes into the wide, wide world. Scary stuff.
She received her degree in Graphic Design, graduated Magna Cum Laude and with several awards for her designs. And now comes the task of finding a job. She's excited and scared and a bit overwhelmed.
We are anxious to see what the Lord has in store for her. But for now, at this particular moment, we are basking in the joy of her achievement.
Very soon we will be opening a brand new section of our website. It will be exclusively for Dee's Circle of Friends. (To be a member of my cirlce, all you'll have to do is join the mailing list. Same thing you do when you leave a comment on the blog.) Anyhoo, this exclusive section will include videos, giveaways, the first chapter of BARGAIN, never before seen photographs and more. Stay tuned to find out about that!

The winner of our ARC for the week of April 27th was Cheryl from Jonosboro, Georgia. Congrats, Cheryl! Last week's winner (the week of May 4th) is Lindsey from Monroe, North Carolina. Congrats, Lindsey!
And this brings our ARC (Advanced Reading Copy) contest to a conclusion, because guess what? No more waiting! A Bride in the Bargain has started showing up in stores! It is also available at some of the major online outlets! So, thank you to all who participated and congratulations to our winners.
That said, don't be a stranger! It has been so much fun to hear from all of you lurkers out there. So, keep posting comments because I LOVE visiting with you!
Look what came in the mail! The hardcover and softcover of A BRIDE IN THE BARGAIN. When these come off the press, they grab one of each for me and stick them in the mail so I can see them. And when that happens, that means they are boxing up the rest of them and shipping them out.
It still takes a while for the books to get where they need to go and for the distributors to log them in, then dispurse them yet again. And then the bookstores have to unpack the boxes and put them on the shelves. Still, I'm thinking they'll start showing up within a couple of weeks. That's my best guess. But I, of course, have no control over that at all!
It's always such a treat to see the book in its actual form with all the chapter headings and curly-cues and stuff. They did some graphics on the back cover of the book this time, which I love. Anyhoo, we'll keep doing the ARC giveaway, but I'm thinking it won't be long now before you'll be able to get your own copy!
Speaking of the ARC giveaway, the winner of our ARC for the week of April 27th was Bekie from Morgantown, West Virginia. Congrats, Bekie! Last week's winner is currently being notified. So now we start all over again.
If you want a chance to win an ARC (Advanced Reading Copy) of my May release, A Bride in the Bargain, then leave a comment here on my blog between now (May 4) and Sunday (May 10). We'll pick a new winner on Monday (May 11) and then go for another round. So, be sure to check in again and good luck!
